Using the File Manager

Phase 7 — Remote Access · OpenFrame Onboarding

Need to pull a log off a machine, drop an installer onto it, or clean up a folder? The File Manager lets you browse a remote device's file system and move files both ways — without starting a full remote desktop session. This guide covers opening it and the operations you've got.

Before you start

  • The device must be ONLINE (the File Manager connects live to the machine).
  • You're on the device's detail page.

Open it

On the device detail page, click the "…" menu → Manage Files. The File Manager opens and you'll see a "File manager connected successfully" confirmation. (It's also reachable from a ticket's "…" menu — Phase 6.)

Browsing

You start at Root and drill in from there — on Windows that's the drives (e.g. **C:**), then folders. A breadcrumb (Root › C: › …) shows where you are and lets you jump back up. Each row lists Name, Size, and Edited date, and a Search box filters the current folder. Click a folder's chevron to go in.

Moving files

The toolbar across the top is your operation set:

  • Upload — push a file from your computer onto the device (into the current folder).
  • Download — pull a file off the device. Use the per-row "…" menu on a file.
  • New Folder — create a folder on the device.
  • Copy / Cut / Paste — move or duplicate files within the device's file system. (Copy/Cut light up once you've selected something; Paste drops them in the current folder.)
  • Rename / Delete — per-file housekeeping via the row's "…" menu.

Bulk operations

Every row has a checkbox, and Select All grabs everything in the current folder. Select multiple files, then Copy/Cut or delete them together — handy for clearing out a logs folder or pulling a batch of files at once.

Heads-up: the File Manager acts on the real file system with real permissions. Deleting here deletes on the machine. Double-check the path in the breadcrumb before a bulk delete.

When to use it vs. other tools

  • File Manager — moving files to/from a machine, browsing the file system, quick cleanup.
  • Remote Shell — when you'd rather copy/mv/rm from the command line (Phase 7).
  • Remote Control — when you need to see the desktop while you work (Phase 7).

Quick checklist

  • Device is ONLINE
  • Opened "…" → Manage Files and saw the connected confirmation
  • Navigated with the breadcrumb and Search
  • Used Upload / Download to move files both ways
  • Used checkboxes / Select All for bulk Copy/Cut/Delete
  • Verified the path before any bulk delete

What's next

That covers moving files. The last piece of remote access is the behavior that trips people up most — copy-paste and special keys: Clipboard & Input Sharing During Remote Sessions.

Based on OpenFrame v0.9.19. The File Manager requires an online device — what's in your console wins.

Hi all! My name is Vlad and I’ve been brought on to head the marketing team at Flamingo. Thankfully, this isn’t the first time I will be building a marketing department from scratch, so the experience should come in handy. Now it’s time to dive into the world of MSPs and find myself in this new world.

Frequently Asked Questions

MSP AI Agents

Yes. In production MSP shops today, 10% to 25% of tickets close before a human opens them. Thread alone has processed 173 million tickets across 750-plus MSP partners at 96% triage accuracy, handing back 490,000-plus technician hours. Agents own the low-risk, high-volume work (password resets, MFA enrollment, known installs, onboarding and offboarding) and flag anything that touches production data or needs judgment for a human to take.
On a five-person desk, reported deployments show $78,000 to $130,000 in annual direct labor savings, roughly 30% fewer escalations, and 15% to 20% better SLA compliance. Broader MSP adoption data adds ticket handling time cut by 45% and five to 12 points of margin, all from reclaimed capacity rather than headcount cuts.

About OpenFrame

OpenFrame isn't built to plug into your stack. It replaces it. Instead of duct-taping a dozen tools together (RMM, MDM, SIEM, patching, remote access, each its own login and bill), we bundle it into one unified platform: RMM, MDM, monitoring, automation, remote access, patch management, security monitoring, and ticketing, plus built-in AI copilots. So "does it integrate with X?" usually means: you won't need X anymore.
Most platforms give you one piece and expect you to bolt the rest on. OpenFrame unifies the whole stack in one place, with AI copilots built in. Fewer logins, fewer bills, less duct tape.

BCDR Planning

BCDR stands for business continuity and disaster recovery. Business continuity covers keeping critical operations running during a disruption. Disaster recovery covers restoring data, systems, and infrastructure afterward. A BCDR plan combines both into one document with defined recovery targets and owners.

Network Topology

Network topology is the arrangement of a network: how devices like switches, routers, and endpoints connect, and the path data takes between them. It covers both the physical wiring and the logical flow of traffic, and it's the map technicians use to troubleshoot.

MeshCentral Migration

ConnectWise raised ScreenConnect pricing across 2025, with reports of up to 275% on some Access tiers and support plans climbing 15 to 20% per renewal cycle. The per-concurrent-technician model also means your cost rises every time the team grows.
ConnectWise restructured ScreenConnect pricing in 2025. Entry plans rose around 20%, while the larger unattended-access tiers priced by computer count saw increases reported as high as 275%. The steepest jumps hit MSPs managing more endpoints, which pushed many teams to price out alternatives.

PSA Software

PSA stands for professional services automation. It ties ticketing, time tracking, contracts, and invoicing into one system so service businesses can bill accurately for the work they deliver. Two distinct markets use the term: professional services firms and managed service providers.

RMM Software

Remote monitoring and management software lets IT teams and MSPs monitor, patch, script, and remotely control endpoints across many networks from one console. An agent on each device reports health data back and executes work pushed from the platform.
